Finding Encouragement

FINDING ENCOURAGEMENT

1Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

David and his men had been dismissed by the Philistines and came to Ziklag, where they dwelt. Upon arriving they found that their village had been raided and burnt and all the women and children had been taken by the Amalekites. David and those with him cried until they could not cry anymore. To make matters worse for David his own men blamed him and talked about stoning him, because of what had happened. Pretty grim circumstances wouldn’t you say? Things hadn’t gone the way they expected them to. Their families taken, their homes burned and instead of a grand homecoming it was a grand time of disappointment and fear.

If we left the story there it would be sad but the Bible says David encouraged himself in the Lord. In the midst of everything going on he found encouragement in the Lord. We are living in disappointing times, where things aren’t going as we had expected them to. Maybe our homes haven’t been burned, but some have had that happen, not from invading forces but from people within our own country. Our plans that we have expected to go as usual have been halted by a virus. A virus that many are trying to use to destroy our country as we know it. This all is very discouraging no matter what stage of life you are at. But we too can find encouragement in the Lord if we will just look to Him.

1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

That verse alone encourages me. That God who knows me, warts and all, cares for me inspite of me. Friend, I don’t know all you are going through and, likewise, you don’t know all I am dealing with. But God knows and He cares for you. He wants to hear from you and will encourage you where you are at this very moment. Why would He do that you may ask? Because He cared for David and He is no respector of persons. If He encourages one He will encourage all that will be encouraged in Him.

Why do we need to be encouraged in the Lord? In order to go on and do what He wants us to do. If you read the rest of the chapter you will find that David took some men (400) and went and recovered all their families and all their stuff without the loss of anything. How could they do this? Because David encouraged himself in the Lord and listened to the Lord.

Have you been discouraged by circumstance? Do you look at the situation and just cry until you can’t cry anymore? Let me urge you to encourage yourself in the Lord.

Look to Him and all His goodness that has been bestowed on you and know He cares for you and I think you will be encouraged and able to face the day and those to come.

Have a great day!!
