GIVE THANKS

Psalm 136:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Psalm 136:26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

This is the week that we celebrate Thanksgiving Day. For many they have already skipped Thanksgiving and gone to Christmas. I know the retailers begin advertising for Christmas at the 1st of November, because they don’t make the big sales on Thanksgiving that they do on Christmas gifts. Let me ask you not to be taken in by this. We need Thanksgiving, although I think we need it all year long, the attitude of thanksgiving not the food and festivities. We have a lot to give thanks for, many things we take for granted from day to day. So let’s not wait till next Thanksgiving to be thankful. Start now to be grateful and thankful everyday.

The scriptures above are the first and last verses of Psalm 136. We are told to give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good and His mercy endureth forever. We serve a good God who gives us good things in this life. He meets our needs and even sometimes gives us our wants. Also His mercy endureth forever, actually means lasts without end. That right there is enough to give thanks for. I am so glad we get mercy instead of what we deserve, for if we got what we deserved it would be an eternity in Hell, but mercy has stepped in and we get forgiveness instead. Well, that ought to make you happy right there, Getting Heaven instead of Hell, what about that? WELL GLORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s in capital because I’m shouting it, GLORY!!!!!!! If you ever shouted or said amen mercy is a reason too.

Then the psalmist ends the chapter with giving thanks unto God, because His mercy endureth forever.

Don’t take His mercy lightly. It is a great gift, from a great God that is worthy of

thanks every day not just the 4th Thursday of November.
