PEACE
PEACE
Everyone wants peace or so they say. Some radical groups incite violence in the name of peace. Some are willing to do anything, say anything and accept anything in the name of peace. But I would contend that is not a true, lasting peace. Webster describes peace as the following: In a general sense, a state of quiet or tranquillity; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals, or to the temper of the mind;. freedom from war with a foreign nation; public quiet; freedom from internal commotion or civil war; freedom from private quarrels, suits or disturbance; freedom from agitation or disturbance by the passions, as from fear, terror, anger, anxiety or the like; quietness of mind; tranquility; calmness; quiet of conscience. Did you notice that he used the word freedom? True freedom comes from the Lord as these scriptures show.
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Knowing we have peace with God should give the believer a freedom and peace that a non believer cannot surpass. But sadly many times we as Christians are the ones who are in turmoil and tumultuous situations, and do not demonstrate that great peace that we have. Jesus left us with His peace and I think many times we forget that.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Knowing these things why do we worry and seem to not find peace in our hearts?
Many times I believe it is our human (sinful) nature that kicks in and lets the doubt and fear take hold. But we know what the Lord has said, what He has promised, and we should exercise faith more in these situations.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
As the lyrics to the song say: So why should I worry why should I fear,
when this very same Jesus He is always so near,
He lives in my heart and He hears when I cry,
I’ll call on His name till the storm passes by
Keep your eyes on Jesus and His word and have peace!!!!!
