The Lord Is With Us

Isaiah 43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:……………….

I often use this passage at a lot of funerals trying to give comfort to the family and friends, in hopes that they might take comfort in knowing that the Lord is with them, no matter what is going on in their lives. In the past few years I have tried to hold on to this promise, in the bad times as well as the good. It is easy to do when everything is going good in your life, but sooner or later something will come your way that is not so pleasant.

Since 2019 I have dealt with health issues that are not in any sense pleasant. I have found myself in the hospital in the past two years more times than I had ever been before, except when I was 12 or 13 years old. I broke a leg and was placed in traction for quite some time in order not to be crippled. But after the first 4-5 days the pain was gone and I just laid there the rest of the time. The doctors tell me today they really can’t do anything for me except give me more medicines that are not a cure, but, something that hopefully will keep the situation from getting worse. Just this week I had an appointment with a doctor who I had hoped would be able to do something for my condition only to find out if he did what he had in mind it would most likely make the problem worse.

I have said all that about myself to get to the scripture above. While I was sitting in the doctor’s office hoping for good news, I was prepared for bad news. But in that I knew that the Lord was with me whatever the doctor said. I know that he has promised to never leave His own or forsake them that are His. In floods or fire He will be with me and tells me not to fear for that reason. Don’t think it will be a bed of roses going through these things but we can take courage because He is with us. So if you are in dire straits today know this, if you belong to the Lord He will be with you and see you through to the end.

Have a great day
