WE HAVE TODAY
Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day the Lord made for you and I. We should be happy and content with it. It will have 86,400 seconds in it which equals 1440 minutes which in turn equals 24 hours. The very same length as yesterday and the same as tomorrow will have. But some how we are not content with today. We are always looking for a better day to come, a special event that you hope will be life changing. But many is the day that comes and goes and it becomes the past with nothing changing. I look forward to many good days ahead of us, but I don’t want to be so focused on a day in the future or event, that I forget to enjoy this day. For this is the day we have and for all we know we may never see that day in the future. We are not promised tomorrow. If you think about it you have the breath in your lungs this moment and God has your next breath.
Notice the Psalmist says, this day was made by God. Then he says “we will rejoice”. Are you rejoicing? The Hebrew word here for rejoice is giyl which means to spin around. Are you spinning around just because of this day? Then be glad. In Hebrew the word is samach means be gleesome, cheer up, merry. Are you merry or happy just because it is today? We should be excited that God has made this day for you and I. But many times I am guilty of thinking of doing something tomorrow, James warns us against that in the passage below.
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
I don’t know about you but sometimes I find myself procrastinating on things that I should do today. I think of a person that I knew I needed to go witness to and I put it off. Finally I went to his house and they were not home. Then I saw him at a funeral but could not get to talk to him. Before long I got word that he was dying, I went to the hospital but it was too late for me to talk with the person for he were unable to communicate. But thankfully someone else had already gotten to talk with him and he accepted Christ and was saved some time before this day. I think I missed it the day it came on my heart by not going then. That was the day for me. But I put off the thing I should have done until tomorrow. Don’t do that! Thankfully this story had a happy ending, but it could have had a different outcome. I’m thankful someone else didn’t wait for a tomorrow.
You have today don’t look to tomorrow. Rejoice and be glad in today.
Have a great day TODAY!!!!!!!!!!
