Your Sin Will Find You Out

YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT

Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

This was the warning that Moses gave to the tribes of Gad and Ruben concerning helping the other tribes in taking the land of Canaan before settling into their own inheritance on the other side of the Jordan. He said if you don’t do what you have sworn to, then you have sinned and it will be known.

Many have thought that they could hide their sin, as Achan did when he took the Babylonish garment, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold and hid them in his tent. They were not permitted to take spoil for themselves. The warriors of Israel were defeated at Ai because of Achan’s sin. But he thought he had it hid. But God sees and knows all. Understand today you may think that you can hide sin and you may hide it from man. But it is never hidden from God and He has a way of bringing it to light more times than not. Sin is serious! Don’t try to hide it. Confess it to God, repent and ask forgiveness of it.

I have a funny but true story that demonstrates how things will be brought out even if we do our best to cover them. Here is the way the story was told to me:

Sis and Jane (names changed to protect innocent and guilty) were going out to eat a couple years ago. When they pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant (one quite favored by preachers) and in doing so they happen to run over a cat that ran under their car. The cat was dead on the scene and they didn’t want to leave a dead cat lying in the parking lot. So they got a empty shopping bag from a very popular department store and placed the cat in it and parked the car. Not wanting to leave the dead cat in the car while they were eating they set it at the rear of the car. They went into the restaurant and are seated by a window and they could see their car. A lady pulled in beside their car, got out and spotted the shopping bag. As they watched she walked to the back of the car looked all around and then picked up the bag and proceeded into the restaurant. She met someone there and they sat down and talkd a little and got their cell phones out an fiddled with them. Then curiosity got the cat, pun intended. The lady picked up the shopping bag and opened it and looked in it. You know what she saw, then she was so taken aback she flipped over her chair and hit her head, bad enough that a ambulance was called. They loaded her on the stretcher and her friend put her pocketbook on the stretcher with her. Then she picked up the shopping bag, dead cat and all and layed it on as well. Don’t know what happened from there but I’m sure someone else got a shock when they opened the shopping bag. While this is humorous, it is just the way folks try to hide sin and think no one ever knows.

Knowing that sin will find you out, we better be careful what we pick up and try to hide.
