Anchored
ANCHORED
Acts 27:29 Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
Paul was on his voyage to Rome, he had warned the shipmaster and crew not to go to sea as it was past time for sailing. But they thought they could make it. Aren’t we guilty of somewhat the same things today? We think we can make it but in fact we can’t and we must be anchored or we will be shipwrecked. When they couldn’t tell where they were that night, they put out four anchors in order to keep from running aground, which they did when they loosed the anchors. Let me give you 4 anchors we need to have in place to keep us from running aground.
Book. We have to be anchored in the word of God. It is our instruction manual for life. It tells us what we are to do and what we should not do.
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
2. Belief. We have to know what we believe and be sure it is based on the Book. We must be anchored in our belief’s and be sure they are anchored in the Bible. You can sincerely believe something and be wrong. If what you believe doesn’t line up with the word it is wrong.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
2Thessalonians 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
3. Blood. Not just any blood but the blood of Jesus Christ is what paid the sin debt I owed and that you owed as well. It is one of our anchors, for without it, according to the Bible there is no remission of sin.
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
1Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
4. Blessed Hope. That being Jesus coming again, I am looking for His appearing and this anchors me knowing He is coming again. It is a promise made the day He ascended back to heaven, that as He was taken up in a cloud, He would come again in like manner
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
The old song says “I’ve anchored my soul in the haven of rest”. These 4 anchors help me to stay anchored there.
Have a great day!
