Be Holy

BE HOLY

Leviticus 19:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

In the book of Leviticus God gave laws for the Levities for all manner of their duties, also laws on sickness, marriage and many other things. Here God tells Moses to speak to the children of Israel. Notice it was not to the heathen or those outside of the twelve tribes. God wanted a specific message given unto all His people. He wanted them to be a holy people, because he was holy. The Hebrew word here used for holy is:

qadowsh, pronounced kaw-doshe'. It’sdefinition is: God as well as sacred, an angel, a sanctuary: holy, saint. So you can see God wanted His people to be like Him in this characteristic. Some times the Israelites did good in this area but most of the time they were not very holy.

You may think well that was a long time ago and that was to the house of Israel, but let’s look at what Peter said to the church in the New Testament.

1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

If something is written in scripture once it is important, but, I think if it is in there twice it is really must be. It was given to Israel and here to Christians. Be ye holy. In verse 15 where Peter says in all manner of conversation, we think of conversation as talking to one another, while we should be holy in our speech, the word actually means behavior, we might say in our day to day living.

Let me ask a question are you holy in your day to day behavior? I am afraid many of us are not. I want to be and strive to be, but, sometimes I am not. But thank the Lord he will forgive and cleanse us if we will ask Him.

1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Aren’t you glad for this verse? But just because the Lord offers us grace we shouldn’t abuse it. We should strive everyday to be holy. I know I won’t be completely holy till I reach that place called heaven, where the things of this world won’t be anymore.

We will be in the presence of God and Jesus, then being holy won’t be a problem anymore.

BE HOLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day
