Death
1 Samuel 20:3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
I am writing this with the end of the verse above on my heart this day. For no truer words have ever been spoken. This time a week ago I know of a couple that were walking very close to the valley of the shadow of death. You see this couple started out to go about 90 miles away from home for a evening of gospel music. When they were stopping for a rest stop they were involved in an auto accident that didn’t seem to be all that bad. But in a few moments it turned very bad very fast The husband became unresponsive and was transported to the nearest hospital which was only a few minutes away. While there he did not understand how close death was to him in those moments. He went into shock and had no blood pressure or pulse for a short time. Only after the doctors and nurses got him stable did he find out how close to death he really was. A doctor and a nurse told him that he didn’t realize how hard they had worked to keep him alive. His wife came away with only bruising and soreness. He was released from the hospital on Sunday, after two nights in the hospital one of those days and nights in ICU.
I told the story to show you just how close death is at all times. You have the breath in you now and God has your next one. One day all of us will meet that old foe death and we must be prepared to meet it for death is the avenue we take to eternity. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and have been born again you will step off in to a place that I don’t believe human words can describe. But if you haven’t accepted Christ you will step off into eternal punishment of which I don’t think the human mind can comprehend. You won’t be able to fake your way into heaven you will find yourself in torment.
Please friend heed the warning, there is just a step between you and death and you never know when that step will be taken. I heard that Bro Calvin Evans preached a message out of this passage and a few hours later took that last step into eternity. He never thought, I’m sure, when he preached this message that it would be his last or that he was that close to death.
Folks I don’t usually ask much but if you would please print this little short though out and give it to your lost family and friends, that way they can never say no one warned them of things to come.
Oh and by the way I know the story to be true that I told because it was me and my wife that lived through it.
Have a great day!!!!!!
