Feverant Prayer
James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James wrote this passage about the right way to seek healing for one’s self. He gives some guidelines for the one seeking healing. First he says for the sick to call for the elders of the church, then let them pray over him, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord. He tells us to confess our faults to one another and pray for one another. Once these have been met it says that you may be healed.
But I am interested today in the last sentence of verse 16 “The effectual feverant prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. What is effectual feverent prayer? The Strong’s concordance says it is active efficient and to be mighty in. Then we see these prayers come from a righteous man. Who is a righteous man? Romans 3:10 tells us there is none righteous.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Again Strong’s tells us that righteous is: holy, innocent, just, meet. So who might we consider as righteous? Jesus was the only righteous one that was born righteous and died righteous. Hence the only righteous men are the ones that have accepted Jesus as Savior and His righteousness makes them righteous.
So we need to be careful who we have praying over and for us. I like what some preachers will say when some one comes to be anointed for healing, “ that if you don’t believe in healing please step outside”. In this day that we live everyone is prone to say I’m praying for you and then in a post 5 minutes later having filthy talk. I don’t need that kind praying for me and neither do you. When I ask for prayer I want someone who can get a hold of the Father for me.
I can give you testimony of having a righteous man praying feverantly for me, just this past week. I knew I needed to go and be anointed and prayed for but as usual I was hesitant. When I did the preacher was just waiting on me, he called for the elders and anointed me and another person with oil and began to pray. He prayed and prayed for both of us until he began to weep and beg God for us to be touched. Eventually he fell to his knees and grasp both our hands all the while continuing to pray feverantly and weep. It was a special time like I have never experienced. Since that night I have felt better than I have for several months. Praise the Lord!
Pray feverantly!
Have a great day
