Give Thanks

GIVE THANKS

1Chronicles 16:7 Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.

8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people

9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.

10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.

11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

In verse 8 we are told to give thanks to the Lord. Why should we give thanks? Here are just a few reasons we should.

HE is God

Deuteronomy 4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.

He is Holy

Leviticus 19:2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

Psalm 97:12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

He is our Creator

Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

He is Merciful

Psalm 136:1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for his good and his mercy endureth forever.

(His mercy endureth forever appears 41 times in the Old Testament)

Just a few things here that we should be thankful for. But I would say the thing we should be most thankful for is salvation that was afforded us by Jesus Christ’s death on a cross, his burial and resurrection. There is no doubt that the greatest thing that God has done for us is saving us. I am thankful for a good family, church, friends, health, home, all my needs are supplied and the list goes on and on. What are you thankful for? Take some time each day to think on the things you are thankful for and tell God how thankful you are and if you are thankful for somebody tell them.
