His Mercy

Psalm 118:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

4 Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

Psalm 118:29 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Here the Psalmist makes the point that the LORD’s mercy lasts forever. Here is what Webster’s 1828 dictionary says about mercy: “ That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant. In this sense, there is perhaps no word in our language precisely synonymous with mercy That which comes nearest to it is grace. It implies benevolence, tenderness, mildness, pity or compassion, and clemency, but exercised only towards offenders. mercy is a distinguishing attribute of the Supreme Being.”. In today’s terminology he says mercy is given even though we don’t deserve it and continues to say the only other word that compares to it is grace.

Aren’t you glad God gives mercy instead of what we deserve?

In all 26 verses of Psalm 136 the writer tells us that the LORD’s mercy endureth for ever. Let me encourage you to read this chapter and let it sink in, that His mercy is for ever and is available to you and I. If you look closely you will see that endureth is italicized, which shows that it was not in the original text but was added for clarity. If you read it without endureth it reads: “his mercy for ever”, endureth just shows us that it lasts for ever.

Aren’t you glad today for the mercy of the LORD, for without mercy we would not be afforded all the other benefits that He affords us. Think on the mercy the LORD has shown to us and we should be willing and wanting to praise the Lord for all He has done. In Psalm 100:4-5 we are told to “enter his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise, to be thankful and bless his name. Why? He tells us the LORD is good and His mercy is everlasting. PRAISE HIS NAME!!!!

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

If you have received His mercy you should have a thankful heart and want to give honor and glory to the one that gave you that great gift of mercy.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!
