Giving Part 2

Giving Part 2

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

We are talking again this week about giving, a very touchy subject for many. I have heard it said that all preachers are interested in is getting money. If that were the case most would be doing something else besides preaching, for it you preach the truth not many want to hear it and even fewer will support your ministry. Let’s be clear about one thing, I am not writing this trying to get anyone’s money for myself. I am writing this to encourage you to be a blessing to others and in turn receive a great blessing. Paul tells us that Jesus said the following about giving;

Acts 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

We don’t have these words recorded in the gospels, but we know that not every single word Jesus said is recorded for us. Evidently Paul had knowledge of Jesus saying this or else he would not have attributed it to him. It is indeed more blessed to give, than receive.

I know from personal experience it is and even more if you can give anonymously.

Our scripture tells us if you give it shall be given back to you, by the same measure you give it will be given back. I think many times what it given back to us is in the form of blessings, not monetary, but in spiritual blessings. While sometimes it may be in the form of a gift, it may well be in the form of seeing someone be able to buy a prescription or pay a utility bill or maybe just put clothes on their family.

Be careful of giving to get. I have known of people that were duped into giving away money that they needed for necessities on the promise of a shyster to get back many fold of what they give. I heard one such story of a lady that was having a hard time, she was working trying hard to make it, but unforeseen circumstance had thrown up a road block in her life. She had rent due, needed to buy groceries and was asking a “minister” for guidance and help of what to do. His answer was to take what money she had which was enough to pay her rent and give it to the ministry and the Lord would give her back much more than she gave. Guess what, she followed his advise and things didn’t go as he had told her they would. Give by all means but don’t give thinking that God has to give you back something, for He owes us nothing. In fact we owe Him everything as He has given us so much.

Give to bless others not to get for your self. God will honor that!

Have a great day
