Giving Part 3

GIVING PART 3

Matthew 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

This is in the account of the rich young ruler who came to Jesus wanting to know how to have eternal life. Jesus first tells him to keep the commandments, to which the young man says, he has since his youth. Then we get to verses 21 and 22, where Jesus tells him to sell his stuff and give to the poor. This evidently cut him to the quick, for it made him sad as he was attached to his possessions. If we are more attached to our stuff than concerned for others we are in a bad place. You may never know what your giving, no matter how small or great, may accomplish.

There was a song a few years ago, many still sing today called Thank You. It tells of a person’s dream of going to heaven and seeing different people that he had affected by his giving.

One was saved in his Sunday School class, another that was saved due to the work of a missionary whom he had given what money he had. One verse says “One by one they came as far as the eye could see, each one touched by your generosity. Little things you had done, sacrifices made.” Although this is only a song I can see there being some truth in it. We will never know this side of heaven how far our giving has reached. So give and give gladly and you will be blessed. Remember “it is more blessed to give than to receive”.

Luke 21:1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

Don’t ever think your giving is insignificant or too small. This poor widow gave all she had and I think was happy to do it. Unlike the rich young ruler who held on to his riches, she gave in her poverty.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

God loves a cheerful giver, how much the more a generous giver? So give at every opportunity and be blessed. Your gift could have eternal impact on others.

If you are wondering, these last 3 blogs have been written to encourage you to give, for your sake and for the sake of others.

Have a great day!
