God Used Some Unlikely In Jesus's Earthly Linage
GOD Used Some Unlikely In Jesus’s Earthly Linage
Matthew1:3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Here we have Judas (Judah) having twins by his daughter in law, who tricked him into thinking she was a prostitute. He slept with her and had two sons born of her.
Here is one that had an incestuous relationship with her father in law but was listed in the bloodline of Jesus.
Matthew 1:5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
Then we come down a few years and we have a woman who was a harlot in Jericho. She helped the spies escape from the city before it fell and she and her family were saved for her helping Israel. She was a fallen woman but she shows up in Jesus’ lineage.
Then we have Ruth who was a Moabite showing up in the lineage of Christ. Who according to the law could not enter into the congregation of the Lord forever. But God placed her in Christ’s lineage.
Deuteronomy 23:3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
Matthew also alludes to Bathsheba, not by name but as the wife of Uriah, who was the mother of Solomon. But we know that she was not actually of Jesus’ lineage as the lineage in Matthew is of Joseph and the lineage in Luke 3 is the lineage of Mary.
We see these women Tamar, Rahab and Ruth were unlikely to be in the family tree of the Saviour. Yet they were, this just goes to show us that no matter our past there is forgiveness available. Also regardless of the past, if you have accepted the forgiveness and redemption available to you, God can use you.
Remember God doesn’t always call the qualified into service but, qualifies those He calls.
Have a great day
