Thanksgiving

This is the week that we celebrate a day of thanksgiving. It falls on the fourth Thursday of November each year. The date of its beginning is in debate as some say it started in 1619 others say 1621 while others say it began in 1631. It was a time set aside for giving thanks for the harvest that the first settlers, the Pilgrims and Puritans, had harvested.

I believe every day should be a day of thanksgiving as the Lord has blessed our country in so many ways. We should give thanks according to scripture.

1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

We should give thanks unto the Lord, call upon Him and make known what He has done for us

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Give thanks always for all things. Do we do this? It is easy to give thanks for good things but this verse says for all things.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

What ever you do or say do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father by Him.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us.

I was with a family a few days ago as a loved one passed from this life to the next. This person was saved and ready to meet Jesus, It was a hard time for the family but through the heart ache they were giving thanks that their loved one had left this world of suffering and gone to a place where there was no more pain and suffering. If they can give thanks at a time like this how much easier should it be for us to give thanks.

Lets make a dedicated effort to give thanks every day not just on the fourth Thursday of November, for the Lord has been so, so good to us.

Happy Thanksgiving

Have a great day
