Our Enemy
OUR ENEMY
1Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Notice Paul says the last enemy, not our only enemy, to be destroyed is death. We have many enemies, the devil being the big one as he seeks those he may devour. Age is also a enemy as it surely isn’t our friend. There are many more I could list, but if I am honest my biggest enemy is none other than me.
But today I want us to think about that last enemy, death, which we all have to face. For the Christian it is only a means of getting from here to Heaven. But none the less death is an enemy, for it means a separation from family and friends. I sometimes think it is a worse enemy to those left here than to the one who departs. In the past week I have been with families that were dealing with the death of loved ones, two in their 50’s, one in their 70’s and helped in a memorial service for one in his 80’s. You know what I found, the sting of death had the same effect on all these families and friends. The good part about this is all these were in Christ and ready to leave this world so death has no power over them anymore. But those left behind have sadness and heartache to deal with in the days to come. They still have to deal with this enemy called death. But one day they too will leave this world and if they are in Christ their last enemy is done.
God’s word gives a promise concerning death. That one day death will be done forever. In Christ we only die once but if not in Christ you will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death. Death will be cast into the lake of fire. Then it will never touch the Christian again. Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!
Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Let me close with this thought:
Hebews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
This is an appointment you must keep but the thing is we don’t know when our appointment is. My plea to you is be ready. By that I mean you must accept the gift of salvation offered to you by Jesus Christ, that He bought and paid for on the cross at Calvary. Let me beg you to call upon Him today and be saved. Then you will not have fear of your enemy, death. He is near just call out to Him and He will answer.
Have a great day.
