Still Learning

Genesis 30:27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

In this writing today I am doing something that preachers are told to never do. That is, taking a section of a verse and building something out of it. But the thought I have needs this section “I have learned by experience”.

I have learned many things by experience and continue to learn from life’s experiences. Many of the things I have learned have been good and some not so good and these I try to forget.

Over my life I have learned how good God is and how much He loves me. How could a holy God love someone like me? There are times when I don’t love me. But I know He loves me because He sent his only begotten Son to earth to die for me, to do something for me that I could not do for myself. He paid a debt that I had accumulated, a sin debt that I could not be good enough or do enough good works to repay what I had done, He gave me eternal life that I did not deserve or that I could not attain on my own, This is the best thing that I have learned.

Scripture tells us this in Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Jesus told his disciples this not long before He ascended into Heaven. Some will say that He was speaking only to those there that day, But I respectfully disagree as I have learned by experience that He is always with me. I may not have always felt His person in the situation but I know He is there. In the past few weeks I have hit a few speed bumps on life’s highway and may not have really known what was going on around me but, He did and He was right there with me and the ones caring for me. Sometimes pain may cause fear and doubt to creep in then I get to thinking of what I had already learned, then that peace that passes understanding comes flooding in.

I have learned to trust Him. If I trust in me I get into trouble just as scripture says

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the .ways of death Man’s ways lead to trouble but God’s ways are the way of righteousness But trusting in the Lord will bring you to the right path and keep you from unnecessary problems in life.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I would like to think that I am still learning from life’s experiences and by doing this I will grow in the Lord and be able to help others along the way. I was talking to one of my doctors the other day and he said you need to remember those things you have experienced in the past few weeks as they will give you the ability to preach the Word and have life experience to bring it to where we are today.

Have a great day!!
