The Church

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Jesus had asked his disciples who men said He was and they answered. Then He asked the disciples who they said He was and Peter’s reply was in verse 16. He said Peter didn’t get this answer from man but from God. Then He tells them upon this rock He would build His church. The church was not built on Peer as some say but upon his statement that Jesus was “the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

What is this church Jesus spoke of? The Greek word for church is ekklesia, which means called out. It is not a church house but a house where the church meets. You are added to the Church when you are saved, but you can and should take membership in a local church. It’s sad to say but there are people on the local church roles around the world that are not saved, but you are not a member of the church unless you are saved.

Also, it is not a denomination as many think. What’s over the door does not mean you are a member of the church. But, it is what is in your heart that places you in or out of the church.

Now we know that Jesus is the Head of the Church but Paul tells us that there are many members of the body.

1 Corinthians 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

And every member has an important role that only they can carry out Everyone is not a preacher or teacher but there is a role for you to play As Bro Mike McCoy says “you may be only a freckle on the little toe but you are a part of the body that is needful”.

Friend my question to you today is are you a member of the Church? Have you been born again? If you have been born again you are a member of the Church. If you aren’t it is my prayer that you will be born again and be added to the Church.
