The Savior Was Born In Bethlehem

THE SAVIOR WAS BORN IN BETHLEHEM

We hear the story, year after year, that Jesus was born in Bethlehem and many miss the significance of His birth occurring there. It was a fulfillment of prophecy

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

He was born there to fulfill these exact words. You see, Jesus fulfilled every prophecy about himself, no other could claim this. Bethlehem means the house of bread, I think it no coincidence that Jesus said “ I am the Bread of life”.

Caesar, not knowing what he was doing, helped in bringing Mary to Bethlehem and there Jesus was born. Mary was a descendent of David and therefore she had to go to Bethlehem as well as Joseph who also was a descendent of David.

Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

While they were there the baby was born. They could not get a room at a inn. Their inns would likely have been worse than any motel you have stayed at. Jesus was born in a stable because there was no where else. It is hard for us to comprehend the Savior of the world being born in a place where animals were kept. But what else could we really expect as He was born in a borrowed stable and then in 33 years died on a cruel cross and was laid in a borrowed tomb. Jesus himself said that:

Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where lay his head.

He came from the humblest of beginnings and lived without worldly possessions and died and was buried in a someone else’s tomb. Again, all to fulfill prophecy, For all the other prophecies about Him to come to pass He had to be born in Bethlehem.

Have a great day!
