UNBELIEF
Matthew 13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Jesus was in His own country and the people heard Him and wondered, where He got all these teachings and the works He was doing. They said isn’t He the carpenters son?. They went on to say His mother is Mary and we know His brothers and sisters they are here with us. They seemed to think that no carpenter’s son could do this or someone like Mary’s son or the brother to His siblings could ever do what He was doing. He had no training or education from the scribes and Pharisee’s. But He taught in a manner with power that astonished the people of his homeland. But instead of being glad to hear one from their own country it seems they were jealous. Jesus said that a prophet does not have honor amongst his own county and his own people.
Here is where we get to what I was thinking on today. In verse 58 it says he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. In Mark 6;5-6 it says he only laid his hands on a few sick folks and healed them and marveled at their unbelief
Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
I wonder if when we pray and ask for things that only the Lord can do, and we don’t get an answer is it due to our unbelief? Does Jesus look at you and me and marvel at our unbelief? After all He has done for us and we ask, but do we really believe we will receive?
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
This is if we are asking in the will of God? Not asking amiss.
James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Ask yourself these questions. Do I believe the Lord can do what I am asking? Am I asking with the right motives? Do I trust the Lord to do what is the right thing?
If you answered yes to all these then pray and believe and know the Lord will do what’s best.
Have a great day!
