WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

In the 1930’s and 40’s there was a bank robber by the name of Willie Sutton, who reportedly stole over 2 million dollars in robberies, mostly from banks. One day after being caught Sutton was asked by reporter Mitch Ohnstad why he robbed banks. According to Ohnstad, he replied, "Because that's where the money is". According to this account that is why Mr. Sutton robbed banks. That was his motive, although a bad one. Many today have bad motives for what they do. A partial list is hatred, anger, greed, pride and selfish ambition. Again these are the wrong motives. The scripture below shows us what Paul’s motive was, the love of Jesus Christ and what He had done in his life.

2 Corinthians 5:12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.:

13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Your motives show what is really important in your life. We say this all the time, “people do what they want to do”. Pleasing the flesh is the motive of many today, even inside the church. For many they want what they want and they will do whatever to get what they want because they want it. But that is not the case with everyone, thank the Good Lord. Our motives should be ones of serving the Lord, following His commandments, being led by His Spirit, and being servants to our brothers and sisters in Christ. If every Christian lived with these things being their motives for living, I for one think the church would be a lot healthier than it is today. Why should these things be our reason for doing what we do (motives)? It is because of what Jesus has done for us, He loved us, died for us paying our sin debt, rising from the dead, ascending back to Heaven and is seated at the Fathers side making intercession for us and left us with a promise that He would come again to receive us unto Himself that we may be where He is. That is reason enough for me.

Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Enough said, what other motive we need.

Have a great day!!
