Wait
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Waiting is not something most of us are good at. We are of the mindset of I want it now if I wanted it later I would have asked for it later. But God does not work off our time table. He has His own plans and times for them to come about. This past week was Christmas and if you have young children around wait is something they just aren’t very good at. As we gathered for a meal together we hadn’t started eating till one of the toddlers said,” lets open presents now”. Being told he had to eat first was not part of his plan. He gulped down a few bites and began again to want to open presents but was made to wait for what I’m sure seemed to be an eternity for him before he could open presents. We may not be as anxious for something as he was, but we all have our hurry up moments.
Our scripture tells us if we will wait upon the Lord we will be strengthened, we will fly (I think this may be in reference to the Holy Ghost visiting us), we will run and walk and not get weak. I like the sound of that for I personally find myself getting weak and weary not feeling like I can do the things I want or used to do. But waiting has it’s perks.
Luke 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Simeon was a just and devout man, who was waiting on the coming Messiah. The Holy Ghost was upon him and revealed to him he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. It doesn’t tell us how long he had been waiting but finally one day there He was. His parents in keeping with the law, brought Jesus as commanded in the law and Simeon knew He was the Christ. How did he know? The Holy Ghost revealed it to him. Don’t you know when he left the temple that day he left with a lift in his steps and joy in his heart? All because he simply waited, what joy and strength do we miss simply because we are in a hurry up mode and not willing to wait on the Lord.
Have a great day
