WAKE UP
Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
We are living in a time when the Church seems to have gone to sleep. It seems that many, but not all, have settled in for a good long nap it. What is the church? The church is not a building for the building is where the church meets, the church is us, the saved, the born again. We have people telling us the church should not meet for health reasons, but not everyone in the church is sick. Yes, if you are sick stay home, But if you are healthy physically and stay away from church you will get sick spiritually, with a sleep problem. We will go to sleep on the Lord if we aren’t very careful. There are other reasons that we grow sleepy, lukewarmness, getting caught up in the world, loosing our burden for a lost and dying world and many other things will cause us to become spiritually sleepy.
Our scripture should speak to us even more today than it did in Paul’s day. He says “knowing the time”, we should be fully aware that today even more than in Paul’s day we need to be on guard and
not sleeping. Jesus said himself we should be able to discern the times.
Matthew 16:3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
We live in a day when love has waxed cold, people have not retained natural affection, they are calling wrong right and right wrong. So many other things we could name, but you understand, from a Biblical viewpoint, we are living in perilous times. Therefore it is high time or the time we should wake up. You aren’t doing anything when you are asleep. We need a certain amount of sleep, but we don’t need to sleep all the time. There is work to do and we can’t do it if we are asleep. Notice the last part of our verse says that our salvation is nearer than when we believed. This is not meaning that our being saved is near, for if you have trusted Christ you are saved now. This is in reference to our eternal salvation when we are delivered from this carnal world, to a place where we will be with the Lord forever. We need to be awake and about the Lord’s business until that day comes. Look what Jesus said about that day
Mark 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
