You Can Overcome Worry

YOU CAN OVERCOME WORRY

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The definition of worry comes from and old Anglo-Saxion word meaning; to strangle or choke. There is a better way to deal with problems than by being strangled or choked by them. A person that worries all the time, is having the very life choked out of him.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Worriers don’t have that abundant life, because they are consumed with worry.

Here are some statistics on what most people worry about.

Things that never happen: 40 percent.

Things over and past that can't be changed by all the worry in the world: 30 percent. Needless worries about our health: 12 percent.

Petty, miscellaneous worries: 10 percent.

Real, legitimate worries: 8 percent.

Friend only 8% of things worried about are legit.

Paul tells the church at Philippi to be careful for nothing. The word careful is from the Greek word merimnao which means to be anxious about or take though of. In other words don’t worry. Tell it to Jesus and let him take care of it and his peace will keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way to overcome worry.

I was reading this past week and my daily reading brought me to Psalm 103. There we are shown how to overcome worry.

Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies;

5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

It is hard to worry when you are praising the Lord and thinking on all His benefits. Oh, don’t look at what you don’t have or what might happen, but look at what He has done for you. Forgiven you, healed, redeemed you from destruction, crowned you with kindness and mercy. Satisfied you with good things, and renewed you like an eagle, ready to take flight. Then down in verse 12 we are told our sins are taken as far as the east is from the west. The farther east you go the west is farther behind, east and west will never meet.

If these things alone don’t make you happy and forget about the things going on around you, talk to the Lord about it. Many times we make worries out of nothing.

DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY IN JESUS

Have a great day
