Approaching the Lord
Psalm 147:7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
In these scriptures we are told to sing praises to the Lord with thanks and along with music. This tells me that God likes singing and music. As we approach Thanksgiving Day we should be thankful every day but especially on this day. Then in the next scripture we are told to make a joyful noise unto the LORD, as well as a loud noise, then to rejoice and sing praises.
Again this reenforces the thought that God likes singing and praise. It says also a loud noise and if you look up the definition for loud noise it is a ear splitting sound. So, for the ones that say they don’t like noise at church it would seem to be in contrast to what the word says.
Psalm 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
In this next passage it says we are to come into His presence and this brings me to what my thought originally was. If you were to go see the president or the governor you would have to dress in a particular way or you would not gain access to either one. How much more should we be concerned about our appearance before the Lord. I have seen in my lifetime a decline in the musician’s appearance and their message in song. I was talking with someone connected with Southern Gospel Music and they said it was evident that many in that genre have gone the way of the world in their dress and their music. As I can remember when the singers would not get up to sing without their “Sunday Best” on with hair combed not looking like they had just stuck their head in a clothes dryer. They would sing the praises of God and the Glory would seem to fall on the place. Today we have the so called Christian rock with clothing I wouldn’t be caught out in public wearing and singing unintelligible lyrics, that don’t do anything but stir the flesh.
Read the verse below and ask yourself does the music I listen to do the things we are told to do.
Do you really think a Holy God is pleased with your dress as you come before Him. You may say “I’m not a performer so it doesn’t matter how I look or what I sing.” But this verse says “let us come”, that pretty well takes care of that argument.
Psalm to 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
So let us sing unto the Lord, on good days and on bad days let us praise Him in song.
Psalm 47:6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
Have a great day!
