Are You Salty?

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Jesus said ye, that would be us, believers, are the salt of the earth. I think he was referring to our responsibility to do all we can to help our brothers and sisters. Did you know in some areas there are actually salt mines? That would put Jesus words in a whole new concept as salt being from the earth and usually in vast supplies. So if you are salt of the earth or from the earth you would have a endless supply.

Let’s look at how salt’s uses in the natural can apply in spiritual matters. Salt seasons, causes thirst and preserves.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Salt seasons food. Let me ask you do you add a pleasant flavor to the cause of Christ or do you cause others to have a bad taste in their mouth by your “Christian actions”?

Salt also causes thirst. Do you cause a thirst to those around you, to crave the things of God, such as scripture reading, prayer, attending church services (your own as well as at other churches revivals and special meetings)?

Do you help preserve food? Do you help those around you that are in danger of spoiling or do you just sit back and watch them become putrid? It is the easy thing to do but it is not what we are called to do.

Lastly look at the last part of this verse, if salt has lost its savour, if it is no longer strong enough to give flavor or preserve. It is good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men. If salt is not fit to be used for what it is supposed to do then it will be thrown on the ground and walked upon. Did you know if salt has lost it’s flavor and will not preserve it will still impede growth? That is what this is in reference to. They used to put the salt that was of no benefit on their paths and roads to keep grass from growing.

So if we have lost our flavor and ability to help others if we aren’t trying to preserve, then if we are not careful we may in fact be a tool that hinders someone’s spiritual growth.

Be Salt

Have a great day
