Fear The Lord
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
In Hebrew the word fear has a meaning of fear, reverence and dreadful. We all should reverence the Lord and understand the consequences of disobedience of Him and fear Him for He is all mighty and all powerful. The scripture below tells us it is this.
Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
We must understand that it is a fearful thing to fall into His hands. This would indicate that the writer was speaking to the lost. Even in the time before I got saved I had enough sense to fear the Lord. But, if I had died in that state it would have been a totally different kind of fear.
The writer goes on to say that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. He didn’t say that it was complete knowledge but the beginning of knowledge. I don’t think we will have complete knowledge until we see Christ face to face and become as He is.
Finally the writer says “fools despise wisdom and instruction”. For the most part the world doesn’t want to learn or even hear anything about Jesus and therefore are not as smart as they think they are. For the most part they are know it alls and don’t want to hear anything that would instruct them in the ways of Christ. It is not only the world but there are people in the church that have this notion that they need not fear the Lord or hear words of wisdom or hear instruction. I wonder if this is not why a large percentage don’t see the need to come to Sunday School.
Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Be wise in the Lord not in your own self and you will prosper in the things of God.
Have a great day
