Holiness
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
The word holiness seems to be one that has left most churches and preaching today. It is associated with a particular set of churches and thought not to apply to us today. Granted there is nothing holy about you or me except Jesus if you are saved. But just because we are saved doesn’t let us off the hook. We are to strive to be holy in all we do. AW Tozer said something along the lines of Christianity in America is without holiness. He died in 1963. If it was lacking holiness then how much the more today?
The American Tract Society Dictionary says “true holiness characterizes outward acts, but still more the motive and intent of the heart.” Also it can be said that holiness is the pure essence of what God is and of everthing that is God’s.
It must be important because of the times we are admonished to be holy in the scriptures.
God said it himself:
Leviticus 19:2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy
Peter said this:
1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Peter reaffirms in the New Testament what God had spoken in the book of the Law. So I think holiness will apply to us today as well as the first Christians. I know we are not perfect while in this corruptible flesh, but we are to do our very best to keep from sin and the evils of this world and to keep our minds stayed on God. For if we look at His attributes we will recognize our failures to measure up. Don’t get me wrong we can’t be God but we should have our minds stayed on being holy. In the book of Revelation we are told that Heaven is a holy place and there will be no sin there. There will be beast
around the throne saying “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty”. If you are a Christian you are going to a holy place when you depart this life, so why not prepare for that place now by living a holy and consecrated life before the Lord now.
Have a great day
