How Will You Be Remembered?
HOW WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED?
This is something we all want, to be remembered and remembered in a good way. But what if you are remembered in a bad light? The world tends to remember the bad things about us and seem to forget the good we do. But what if you were remembered as Jeroboam is remembered?
1Kings 14:16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
In I Kings he is recorded 9 times as a man who sinned and caused Israel to sin. Then in II Kings he is recorded 10 times as the one who caused Israel to sin. That is a sad remembrance of a man’s life. He lived around 3000 yrs ago give or take 50 years and we still remember him as the one who made Israel to sin. He was the first king of the 10 tribes known as Israel after they broke with the other 2 tribes who were referred to as Judah. But we don’t remember him for any works other than wickedness and that he made Israel to sin.
What do people think of you today when they hear your name? I really don’t like to dwell on what they think of me, as I’m sure it would not be things I really want to hear.
But if others had to write the epitaph on your tombstone what would it say. I’ve often said that the date of birth and the date of death are written but it’s what that is in-between that will be remembered. I have stood over the coffin of many and I was able to truthfully say that they were a good person, that they were a Christian, a good church member, a good parent, a good employee, some had a servant’s heart. But have you ever thought about what folks will remember about you? I was at a class reunion many years ago, when some of the folks I had gone to school with and had even ran with in younger days, decided they needed to inform my wife of what I used to do. Side bar for a second I have not always been saved and wasn’t back then. Now the rest of the story, I’m thankful for a wife that did not want to hear what I used to be and she simply asked them a question, “He doesn’t do that now does he?” To which they had to answer no he doesn’t. I am afraid many will dwell on my past instead of the good things. Nehemiah said this:
Nehemiah 13:31 And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
He wanted God to remember him for good. It really doesn’t matter what the world thinks but it matters what God thinks and remembers about us. If we are saved then we are in the book of life, where the best thing that can be remembered about us is recorded that we are washed in the blood of the Lamb and will not be forgotten. Hallelujah!!!!!
Have a great day!!
