Praising God

PRAISING GOD

2 Samuel 6:12 And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

Here we have David making the second attempt to bring the ark to Jerusalem, after the first attempt had ended with the death of Uzzah after he had put his hand to the ark to steady it as they crossed the threshing floor. Uzzah was struck dead on the spot. Even though this seems like a small thing to us, it was contrary to God’s commandment.

Notice this time the ark wasn’t on a cart, it was not to be carried on an cart. But the Philistines had transported it on a cart and I guess the Israelites figured if they could so could they. That has happened a lot in the church world today. Somebody does something at their church and it doesn’t matter if it lines up with the Word or not, other churches hear of it, take the idea and baptize it and start using it. Then we wonder why there is so little power in today’s churches.

This time it was being carried by those that were authorized by God to do so and they had only gone six paces when sacrifice of oxen and fatlings were made. This was a type of worship and seeking God’s blessing on their taking the ark to the city. Then in verse 13 we are told that David danced before the Lord with all his might. This is a type of praise. Then in verse 14 we are told all the house of Israel brought up the ark with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet, again we have praise. They were not thinking about the past of what had happened at the threshing floor, but were looking at the present and the future. Could this have been what Paul had in mind when he said in:

Philippians 3:13:Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Friend we can’t let past disappointments and hurts affect our praise of the Lord, because He never changes He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Do you want a blessing, just praise Him for He is worthy. If you will start praising Him the past will diminish and His goodness will surround you, giving you peace and comfort that dwelling on the past can never do.

Have a great day.
