Just A Vapor
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
We really don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow or if we will have a tomorrow. Right now I think I know what I am going to do tomorrow, plans are made, I will be here, then over here and rush back somewhere else and hope I can get it all done in the time frame I have. But it is possible that I may not do any of those things should the Lord see fit to call me out of this walk of life.
What is your life James asks? Then he answers that it is like a vapour that appears for a while and then is gone. The definition for vapor is mist. I think of it as a fog, it comes in the nighttime and when the sun comes out it goes away. James is telling us life is short, you are here for a little while then gone. I had an old preacher tell of hearing a relative of mine years ago say of life it was like a bubble on a pond it was there then all of a sudden it was gone.
It’s what happens when you leave this life that matters. You may live to 80 years of age, but that is just a blip in the realm of eternity. Scripture tells us in:1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Now this is speaking of the saved those that die in Christ But on the other side of the coin:
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Life is short but eternity is more than our minds can comprehend. In just the past few days several people that I know have crossed into eternity and if you could ask them, they would tell you life had been very short. I want my time, however short or long it may be on this earth, to matter for Christ. As I said several that I know or knew of have slipped from this world to the next and only one thing matters for each one of them, if they were in Christ or not. For as the old saying is you’re here for a little while and a long time gone. I shudder at the thought of going into eternity without Christ. Because a Christ less eternity is a eternity of torment and a eternity with Christ is more than we can imagine, I believe the very best day you ever had here on earth will pale to compare with being with Him forever.
Friend, if you are reading this and are not sure you will spend eternity with Christ I beg you to take Him as Savior today, for life is short, uncertain and there are no do over when death comes knocking on your door.
Have a great day!!!!!!!!!
