Last Words
LAST WORDS
We don’t think a lot about last words and some don’t want to even hear others last words. But last words many times mean as much as a lot of the words we say before the end.
Jesus last words are found in Luke 23:46, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” and this verse says He gave up the ghost or in our speech today, He died. His earthly body died and then was placed in a tomb only to arise from the dead three day later.
One of the thieves that was crucified on one side of Jesus said in
Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. Then Jesus told him “today shalt thou be with me in paradise”.
While the other thief said unto Jesus “If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.”
While these two may have said other things these are the only words recorded. What a contrast, one seeking to be with Christ, while the other doubted who Jesus was but said if you are Christ save us. Jesus last words are sweet to the Christian, for if we are in Christ we have given our soul to God already, but one day the spirit of life shall leave this body
and we should know that it all belongs to the Father.
Here are some other famous last words of folks you may have heard of:
Beethoven “Friends applaud, the comedy is over.”
James Donald French, a convicted murder just before his execution by electrocution shouted to the press in attendance “How’s this for your headline? ‘French Fries!”
Bob Marley, a musician who died at age 36 in 1981, “Money can't buy life.”
I have heard down through the years of the last words of a lot of folks, some good some not so good.
But I hope and pray that when my time comes to depart that I will go with words of love for my Lord and my family and a word of praise as I leave here to go to a land of endless praise.
What about you?
Have a great day!
