The Lord Uses The Unlikely
THE LORD USES THE UNLIKELY
Amos 7:14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
Amos tells Amaziah the priest of Bethel, that he was not a prophet or the son of a prophet. We would say in today’s language He was just a farmer. He did not ask for the job nor had he been to prophet’s school for the job. Here is a prime example of a saying a Sunday School teacher I had over 30 years ago said quite frequently, “God doesn’t call the qualified but qualifies those He calls. Down through the ages this has played out, here are a few examples:
Jacob was a liar
Moses was slow of speech, may have stuttered
Gideon was afraid
David had an affair with a married woman and had her husband killed
Jonah ran from God
The disciples went to sleep while praying
Peter denied Christ
Paul persecuted the Church, he even held the coats of those that stoned Stephen.
These were all used by God and were effective in the positions they were called to.
So the next time you think God can’t use you just remember these and know if God can use them, He can use you as well. Really we have no more excuses. He will qualify you if He calls you and remember you are just a carrier of His message and if you deliver it, you have done that which you were called to do. It is what the hearer does with it that matters. You can’t make them receive it, you just have to deliver.
Have a great day
