When Heaven Opens

WHEN HEAVEN OPENS

Mark 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.

11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

This is just after John had baptized Jesus in the Jordan and as He comes up out of the water. Notice what all takes place there.

1. The Spirit comes down and rests upon Him.

This was as much for everyone there that day as it was for Jesus, as He was God in the flesh but he was man and needed strength and power that man does not have. If we are to do anything for the Lord we need the power of His Spirit upon us. It gives us the strength to go on when we cannot not go on our own. If the Spirit is upon us the fruit of the Spirit will flow through us.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

We need to be under the influence of the Spirit. We loose control of self when the Spirit is in control. If you are under the Spirit’s control you won’t walk in the flesh or worldly things.

Mark 1:12 And immediately, the Spirit driveth Him into the wilderness.

I don’t think any of us would look forward to a 40 day fast in the wilderness, but that’s where the Spirit took Jesus.

2. God speaks, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased

God spoke that day, for all to hear, in a audible voice. He still speaks to us today through His word, through the Spirit, through preaching, through teaching and at times in a voice while not audible is very hearable.

2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

1Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

3. God was pleased that day

Is God pleased with you?

Does He see His Son in you? That is what pleases Him

Will God say to you “Well done thou good and faithful servant”/

Have a great day
